Tutte le estensioni dei file conosciuti
Di solito l'Estensione o il suffisso del nome file è formato da tre,
quattro o più caratteri alla fine del nome del file separati da un punto.
L'estensione è utile sia per utenti, sia per i programmi informatici, che per i sistemi operativi come Windows o OS X per capire che tipo di dati e il tipo di file si sta lavorando e con quale programma associarlo per aprirlo.
Le estensioni più comuni sono:

Suggerimento: Windows nasconde le estensioni dei file di default al fine di cercare di mantenere le cose più semplici.
Come mostrare le estensioni in Windows 7 e Windows Vista
Aprire Esplora risorse e fare clic sul pulsante Organizza verso l'alto a sinistra. Scegliere Opzioni cartella e dal menu di ricerca.
Fare clic sulla scheda Visualizza nella finestra che si apre, poi scorrere verso il basso e deselezionare la casella accanto a 'Nascondi le estensioni dei file per i tipi di file conosciuti'
Per mostrare le estensioni dei file in Windows 8
È sufficiente aprire una finestra di Esplora file (il nuovo nome per Windows Explorer) e fare clic sulla scheda Visualizza.
Barrare o deselezionare la casella accanto a Estensioni file. Se la casella è selezionata, verranno mostrate le estensioni. Se deselezionata, non saranno visualizzate.
